If the classroom has two monitors/screens, will this view show up on both sides of the Crestron?
if there are students in the room and students remote, can I use the break out room function to team up students
Rebeka - yes, if there are two screens, the same image will display on both screens.
@Birgit yes! will vary on how depending on the software you are using.
how can students in the room team up with students remote in case discussion?
@Linlin by using the software tool either zoom, teams, or collaobrate
if you attend one of our trainings we cover that.
Linlin if you want to team students in the classroom and remotely, all students need a device, phone, computer...
I missed the first one. Where can I access the video you recorded? Thanks.
What If are remote and want to hsve the screen shown in the classroom, and then show you as well from a remote location?
@Leretta yes you can he will cover that later. he will show you what it looks like :)
Leretta, if the instructor is remote, you will have to choose if the classroom sees you or the content. Cannot show both at the same time.
However, this will be covered later. :-)
do we each get our own mic
Yes! :-) -- we secured funding a couple of days ago to purchase a lapel mic cable for each instructor.
how do we get the mic
this will not be the entire microphone -- but rather the cable that plugs into the belt pack.
Thomas D. Isern
That classroom mic is pretty good - which raises the issue, what about ambient noise?
@Birgit, we are still devising the process. Once it has been established, it will be communicated.
where do we get masks that allow lip reading
Thomas, great question. We will have to ask Daniel if he knows
@Birgit - I believe Disability Services is working on providing masks to instructors with students who've requested accommodations through their office - contact DS for more information
If the instructor is in the classroom using zoom, can students see both the instructor camera AND the content on the computer that you are projecting to the screen? Ideally, I would like remote students to see me and see the screen content to be able to take notes.
Will Zoom be a choice as an operating system along with BB collaborate when we log on to the system and want to choose software to use at start of class?
Dena, no unfortunately, the remote students will only see you or the content but not both.
@Dean when Daniel shares content I see the content and then in zoom it puts the video of the particapants to the side of my screen. I, as the pariticpant/sttdnet, can control how that looks on my screen.
IT is currently working on getting Zoom integrated into Blackboard like Collaborate Ultra currently is. Once that integration is in place, you'll be able to easily start either Zoom or Collaborate Ultra from within your Blackboard course.
@Martha you can choose either Zoom, Teams, and Bb Collaborate.
Good catch Shar -- yes, so a smaller image of you would be available to the students as well.
If we use Zoom, do we have to create the link for attendees or is it automatic when we choose zoom?
Thank you Melissa and Shar, that makes sense. Just like we saw a few minutes ago when Daniel was sharing images of the Crestron screen.
@Jeamette we are working on getting Zoom integrated into Bb. So ideally you should be able to put the link into Bb. We will know more once we are done testing middle of next week.
Thanks--I am comfortable with BB collaborate after Spring, but would like to learn more about Zoom and what the advantages would be--is there further training to help me use that instead?
If we use collaborate, is it automatic,, or do the students have to have an additional link to take part?
@Jeanette if you have two sections of class you ideally would create two different zoom rooms/meetings and share them either in Bb or via email.
@Martha - yes, we have several training sessions coming up which should help you. See https://kb.ndsu.edu/training for schedule information
@Leretta Bb collaborate puts a link into Bb, yes :)
Both Bb Collaborate and Zoom has the select the camera options.
I recognize testing is still going on with the Bb Zoom integration -- but, chances are it will be similar to Bb Collab -- is that correct Shar? Zoom will put the link in Bb?
Are there going to be training sessions for Collaborate?
Will there be training sessions for respondus as well?
@melissa you are correct
Yes - see the schedule at https://kb.ndsu.edu/training
When using the doc camera, how do you zoom in/out?
@Leretta - We're currently developing a further training schedule for the last week in August - not on the schedule yet, but we'll take your Respondus request into consideration. Do you mean Respondus 4.0 or Respondus LockDown Browser?
are the students who are helping us in the class room when we are remote getting training too
Will there be a classroom that will be set up where we can go and practice using the technology before the Fall semester begins?
Can you concurrently use Zoom for synchronous remote students, and also use YuJa to record the class for potential asynchronous use?
@birgit what students are you referring to?
we filled out some excel spreadsheet indicating our course number and the number of helpers we will need. I think these are graduate, as well as undergraduate studetns
We are not seeing what Daniel is trying to show
@kelly it would be on your video strip
@Rebekah you can but I don't know how well that will work when you combine the two technologies like that.
Would there be any chance that we can try all of these in a real classroom before the semester starts?
@Rebekah It depends on what you are trying to accomplish.
Can you demonstrate the stylus on the powerpoint?
Rebekah, Zoom has the ability to record, for asynchronous viewing (rather than YuJa)
Can anyone recommend a stylus for purchase?
As a viewer of the session you can switch to bring Daniel full screen by clicking on the Switch Content, top right of the screen
Where do you recommend we save our class recordings if done in Zoom?
The class recordings in Zoom can be shared in the cloud (which is easier to share) -- or you can save them on your local drive.
what changes when we use our own laptop instead of the desktop?
@polly we are still testing what that looks like in Bb. we hope it will be saved in blackboard if you choose to put it there.
Does the screen register your hand as well as the stylus?
We will communicate once a classroom has been fully equipped with the new equipment, so that you can go to that classroom and try it out.
My experience is that what you write on the whiteboard disappears if you change the screen...so, you cannot return to what was written.
Will apple pencil work
@Michael sorry about that!
No worries! Thanks for asking!
Students who will be in the classroom to start the session with a remote instructor can receive training as well. The training will be the same as for instructors who are in the room. We will be sending "how to" videos, as well as step by step guides in the classrooms.
So if the instructor is teaching remotely, then a student needs to use their personal account information to login to the system in classroom and make the instructor host?
Ghasideh that is correct.
Actually the instructor will already be the host -- as the session will be scheduled by the instructor. But the student will log in, with their credentials, and start the web conferencing solution as a partipant -- or better yet, as a co-host.
@melissa Right. Thanks. So I need to have a designated student for each class.
that is a real pain.
We have HyFlex training today from 1-2 where we will go more in-depth with sharing content etc. :)
Will that be recorded? I can’t make 1-2.
Is there a document with instructions on what a student needs to do in order to start the classroom if we are teaching remotely? It would be convenient to be able to provide such a document to the class on Blackboard so each student would be able to start the class if necessary.
@Jo - yes, the session will be recorded and posted later at https://kb.ndsu.edu/training
@ Andrew, are you referring to the need for a student in the classroom, if you are remote? -- if so, we are working on another solution where the instructor can initiate all of the equipment remotely from home -- however, we are still looking into the solution, it has not yet been vetted.
Michael, yes, we are developing the document. You will be able to include it in your Bb course if you want. The document is still in progress of being put together.
No, I typically use various software on my own laptop
Where will we get access to that document?
I have not used classroom computers in years
(when it is completed)
can you pause and resume recordings in zoom, just like in yuja?
We will be sure to communicate the source of all of our "how to" docs and videos -- but (hopefully) you will find them easy to find with our new web page being run by a knowledge base --- if you search for "teach remote" for example, it will give you links to all related pages. :-)
@Mike, you can pause and resume the recording
In an effort for planning, suppose the electricity were to go out or the internet would go down mid-class. Will the recording complete and save, pause, continue rolling, or just drop complete and lose the prior recording?
You could possibly test this out by just intentionally disconnecting the internet
Is there a tripod you can recommend to set up the 2nd camera to use as a doc camera?
That would simulate an unexpected drop of connection.
@michael yes I will write it down for us to investigate :)
Is there an easy way to keep track of attendance between the in-class participants and those logged in remotely?
Videoconference Comparison Matrix – https://kb.ndsu.edu/page.php?id=104067
Would there be any training regarding creating videos for classes and saving them also uploading on Blackboard.
@mohamed we will have training on that next week. watch your email on Friday for the date/time :)
Thank you, Shar!
@Sara yes we will have YuJa training please see our website:https://kb.ndsu.edu/103166
Okay Thanks Shar.
@Mohamed we will have the attendance training on our website as well. hopefully by Friday :)
Will every room have its own HyFlex 'channel'? Especially for remote students, I assume they will need to switch between rooms as they attend class for different courses.
