Allison
14:04
love it
Marisol Berti
14:15
Nice bow tie!!
Hollie’s iPhone
18:16
is there a way to see participants after the zoom has ended?
Kathy Coykendall
21:34
Would the document camera show up as one of the options when you select "share screen"?
Marisol Berti
21:41
can the record be to a usb drive when selecting this computer?
Tammy Cummings
21:47
Hollie I am not what you mean?
Jon Sweetman
21:54
Yes you can select where you save the recording
Kara Kenan
22:08
Please share the weblink for Zoom in the chat. I missed it on the slide and would like to share with students on Day 1. Thanks!
lorna olsen
22:24
https://ndsu.zoom.us
Stefanie Meyer
22:32
can you show us how to create a poll in settings if we want to set them up in advance?
Jessica Jensen
22:47
Will you address the Zoom/BB integration later?
Daniel Erichsen
22:52
@Kathy - in our classrooms, you can share the doc cam through Zoom. We have video tutorials on our website on how to do that. If you are teaching from home or your office, it might work differently depending on your equipment.
Jenny Linker
23:12
When you share your screen, can you still see your participants?
Tracy Miller
23:29
I am sorry, I may have missed this. Does the record to the cloud option have specific "class rooms" where we would save these recordings so to direct students who may have missed a lecture?
Nancy Emerson
23:43
Can we load multiple polling questions in advance?
Daniel Erichsen
23:57
@Nancy - yes
Allison
23:58
If I want the same groups each class period can I save the groups from wk to wk or do I have to manually do them each wk?
Carrie Anne Platt
24:07
@Nancy - Yes. You just need to go through the web interface to do it.
Daniel Erichsen
24:30
@Allison - you can preassign breakout rooms and they will stay all semester.
Tammy Cummings
24:47
sorry
Kjersten Nelson
26:34
If you pre-assign groups, will you have the option to adjust them in real time? (Particularly to reassign students who might be alone in a group because their classmates aren't there.)
Daniel Erichsen
26:37
@Jenny - it depends on how many screens you have and how you share your content. Short answer is yes.
Daniel Erichsen
27:15
@Kjersten - yes, you can use preassigned groups and then move students around in the live call.
Jenny Linker
27:31
I currently have three screens and I always seem to lose my participant grid when presenting with Mac - what “option” to I need to click?
Carrie Anne Platt
27:38
The preassign then move is a really neat feature!
Kara Kenan
27:53
Is there a benefit to pre-scheduling meetings vs using our personal meeting room? I find using my personal meeting room easier because the link/meeting ID doesn't change.
Stefanie Meyer
27:54
if you pre-set break out rooms are the students always in the break out or do they start all together?
Lindsey
28:36
Not sure if this got answered and I'm missing it, but can you see the attendance after your zoom meeting is completed?
Carrie Anne Platt
29:10
@Lindsey. I don’t think so. But you could use a poll question to have them enter their names if you wanted to take roll that way.
Daniel Erichsen
29:11
@Stefanie - they would start all together. The preassigned rooms show up once you click the breakout rooms button.
Allison
29:38
Are there short zoom sessions for students we can provide them for students that are not that familiar with Zoom
Marisol Berti
29:53
The zoom meeting is not on my left side panel. How do I add it?
Sarah Boonstoppel
30:00
Regarding recording— If videos are saved to the cloud, can you edit them?
Carrie Anne Platt
30:47
@Sarah. You can shorten them (I often cut out the “private questions” people ask at the end). You could also download the recording for more extensive editing.
Jessica Jensen
31:02
Char, I've found that none of my settings in Zoom carry over into Zoom BB if I create a Zoom class recurring in BB if that makes sense...any idea how to fix?
Sarah Boonstoppel
31:05
perfect. thanks!
Lori Swinney
32:13
@marisol you can add the menu Item by clicking on the add menu, select Tool Link and find NDSU-Zoom - rename the link to what you want
Marisol Berti
32:50
I have four lab sections and a common lecture time . I already created a recurrent lecture time , but how do I select students for each lab?
Kathy Coykendall
33:46
Can you explain again how to set the meetings to MWF every week? It looks like you can only choose every day, or every other day, etc.
Carrie Anne Platt
34:08
I like to default to having a Waiting Room because it gives me time to configure all my settings on the call and get stuff loaded before students come in. Also gives the option of asking students who are waiting to talk to you to “step out for a moment” if you want to talk one-on-one with someone.
Chris Colbert
34:09
It was recommended to me to use a waiting room that way you can use the same meeting room for office hours and only let students in one at a time.
Tammy Cummings
34:09
@ Allison, I believe there are some resources in IT knowledge base
Kelly Buettner-Schmidt
34:32
Please describe pro and con of "only authenticate users can join"
Marisol Berti
34:39
I tried to use " post the zoom meeting in BB to my Outlook calendar and I couldn't? What do I do?
Marisol Berti
35:03
The Outlook calendar option is not working for me
martha.guthmiller
35:05
Do we have to set up our lectures from inside the link on BB or can we do so from Zoom? Also, can you share your Intro message so we can put in our course announcements? Thanks.
Daniel Erichsen
35:51
@Martha - you can schedule from either place. Your preference.
Carrie Anne Platt
36:20
@ Allison. There are some helpful YouTube video tutorials for students on how to use Zoom. I just recommend looking at the date the video was created to make sure the interface is current.
Tammy Cummings
36:53
I see a lot of questions, if we don't answer all of them we will try to post them.
Sarah Boonstoppel
37:18
@CarrieAnne— can you send a link to the zoom tutorials for students? Or is a quick google adequate?
Kjersten Nelson
37:30
How would I set up a meeting room, as opposed to a scheduled meeting? Given what Daniel just said, that links are usable whenever for a certain amount of time, is there an advantage to a meeting room?
Kelly Buettner-Schmidt
37:42
Will you please include Daniel's info on how to make the same link good for the full semester (he said year).
Carrie Anne Platt
38:15
@Sarah. I just searched “How to Use Zoom Student” on YouTube. I’ll let you know if I find one that is particularly good!
Daniel Erichsen
38:36
@Kelly - simply select recurring meeting and then select no fixed pattern (I think that's what it is called) in the drop down menu.
Lori Swinney
39:15
@kelly - to set a session for the semester and not pick specific days, easiest is to use the option “no fixed time” instead of daily or weekly.
christina.hargiss
39:31
is it best to record through Zoom or just record the screen through Yuja?
Kathy Coykendall
39:34
Is there a way to make the cloud recordings Unavailable to students?
Tammy Cummings
39:48
IT Knowledge Base https://kb.ndsu.edu/
Carrie Anne Platt
39:50
Sorry if I missed this - For instructors who are joining a HyFlex class remotely (teacher is offsite, students are in classroom), would you recommend they add their tech person as the co-host?
Sarah Boonstoppel
39:51
Can you create a link to specific cloud recordings to add to a class module?
Heather Fuller
39:54
If we set the zoom meeting to start at 10am, can we get into the meeting early to setup? Or, should we schedule a 10am class to start at 945?
Daniel Erichsen
40:12
@Kjersten - the advantage of separate meetings is having separate links so students from other classes don't come into a class they are not registered for.
Lori Swinney
40:39
Zoom tutorials https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/206618765-Zoom-video-tutorials - generic, not specific to NDSU
Daniel Erichsen
41:01
@Heather - you can start your meeting at any time. Even though it is scheduled for 10am, you can click on the link and start it whenever you are ready.
Tracy Miller
41:14
I see this is being recorded......will we get this link to this recording because, I can already tell, I will need to go through this again. :)
Tammy Cummings
41:29
Christina, it is easy to record with Zoom, it will record your screen and you only need one program
Nancy Emerson
41:35
Can students create a meeting with each other through Bb Zoom?
tom dowdell
41:40
If I signed up for zoom through bbd should I now go through the web and sign up again?
Erin Gillam (she/her)
41:42
Reposting Jessica's question because I am also interested in the answer to this: Char, I've found that none of my settings in Zoom carry over into Zoom BB if I create a Zoom class recurring in BB if that makes sense...any idea how to fix?
lorna olsen
41:43
@Christina - while you can record your synchronous Zoom class session using YuJa, that involves an extra step - you may want to use the Zoom recording feature as a simpler way to record synchronous class meetings; If you use YuJa to record it, you would need to remember to make the YuJa video available in the Bb course after recording it.
Angie Walswick
41:43
If we set up the meeting with the pre-set group on the web version, how can students see that meeting in Bb?
Tammy Cummings
42:25
@Nancy, yes students all have azoom license
lorna olsen
42:30
@Tracy - the session recording will be posted ASAP on our IT Web site - https://kb.ndsu.edu/training
Sarah Boonstoppel
42:33
I’ve noticed that I can’t get zoom to load in Blackboard using Firefox. I’m certain this is due to a Firefox privacy add-on. What kinds of privacy apps might prevent the LTI from loading? (So I do’t have to disable them all and so I can make a quick recommendation to students with the same problem)
Timothy Greives
42:37
I may have missed it. Let’s say you create the meeting at Ndsu.zoom.us that has breakout rooms set-up in the preferences. How do I pull these meetings into the blackboard course website?
Lori Swinney
42:38
@Angie you would need to go into Blackboard and import the meeting
Austin Williams
43:45
What is the purpose of an Alternative Host?
Marisol Berti
44:03
Can you show how to add the meeting to Outlook?
Daniel Erichsen
44:12
@Austin - they can start your meeting for you if you are unable to do so.
Austin Williams
44:37
Understood, would their internet speed affect the quality of the meeting?
Carrie Anne Platt
44:46
@Daniel. Should all of the classroom techs be made co-hosts? So they can load Zoom for instructors who are remote?
martha.guthmiller
44:47
So I am in BB and put in a header, then do I go into Zoom in BB and make the meetings and they will automatically get in the content area?
lorna olsen
45:07
@Austin - an alternative host can do many of the same tasks as the host during the meeting - for example, start the recording, set security, etc.
Lori Swinney
45:25
@Marisol https://appsource.microsoft.com/en-us/product/office/WA104381712?src=office&corrid=79eafba2-43ad-4b42-8b38-c06ad6e3b784&omexanonuid=bfb21a28-f16e-4d9e-a8e8-1b34d48b7ff0&referralurl=https%3a%2f%2fndsu.zoom.us%2f
Austin Williams
45:26
Thank you!
Daniel Erichsen
45:40
@Carrie - IT staff can access all meetings through our interface, but your TA/GA should probably be alternative host.
dean.steele
46:30
Are chats saved automatically and how can students access them?
christie obritsch
46:50
How long or the zoom recordings available? Can it be used again in another semester?
Stefanie Meyer
47:21
Will you please show us, if possible, to set up a poll in settings for a class session or are polls only able to add in real time?
Marisol Berti
47:28
@ Lori : I know how to do that from my zoom account but I do not know how to do it with the Outlook icon in BB. if I click in the icon I get an error.
Daniel Erichsen
47:46
@Dean - you can set it in your settings to save chats to your computer automatically. You can also give or remove ability to save chats for students.
Lori Swinney
48:10
@Marisol we will look into this and get back to you
Michael Preheim
49:19
How do you prompt the poll questions?
Michael Preheim
49:26
That is, during the class
Kelly Buettner-Schmidt
49:29
To add poll in advance, does that need to be in Web Zoom or Bb Zoom?
Allison
49:34
when you use the poll can you see which student answered?
Austin Williams
49:51
So make a FAQ?
Thomas D. Isern
49:51
Are we able to record individual student responses from quzzes for recording grades later?
Jenny Linker
49:58
Difference between having meetings vs using your room?
Sam Morrison
50:18
@Michael With the most updated version of zoom, the host has a button at the top of the screen in the "presenting tool" to initiate the polls.
Allison
50:22
can you show us how to make zoom group
Marisol Berti
50:25
@Lori : Thanks
martha.guthmiller
50:50
I just set up my recurring lecture do I need to save or anything when done it asked about copying link do I need to do this?
Angie Walswick
51:16
If we wanted to edit the Zoom recording, my understanding is we need to download the file and upload it into an editing program. Is this correct? If so, is there an editing program you would recommend?
Sam Morrison
51:26
@Jenny the meetings are often used as pre-scheduled sessions, where your personal meeting room can be though of as an "open session" where you can simply start and join. Your join link for the personal meeting room does not change
dean.steele
51:53
Does Zoom generate an audio transcript of the speaker, everyone, or not at all?
Carrie Anne Platt
52:18
@Dean. It auto-transcribes. Accuracy is variable.
Carrie Anne Platt
52:35
@ Dean. You can correct the transcript if you log in through the web interface.
Jordan Henry
52:49
Would alternative hosts such as TA's have access to the post meeting reports?
Kjersten Nelson
52:52
And the reports are available for meetings even if you don't record them, yes?
Sarah Boonstoppel
53:11
Maybe show us how you do it?
Sam Morrison
53:32
@Angie Yes, this is correct. If you want to re-upload the video to Blackboard, YuJa is a good option to bring it back in and then use their basic editing tools. If you wish to do more advanced editing, you'll need to use a more powerful software, which we do have available in QBB150C, the TLMC Lab
Angie Walswick
54:02
Thank you Sam! I am glad it works within Yuja
Fone Pengnate
54:17
Can we get a report with a list of students who participated in the meeting?
Marisol Berti
54:29
With poll : if you have a recurrent meeting with same ID you won't be able to download the polls until the recurrence ends. We had this problem with our extension webinars
martha.guthmiller
54:39
Is there a save button after I set up my lectures, it just says start meeting?
tom dowdell
56:41
I thought Turning Technology was available through bbd and that linked with the grade book. So we should use Turning Tech for polling.
Stefanie Meyer
56:41
thank you!
Kelly Buettner-Schmidt
57:13
Do the poll results only show the full %, no details as to each student's response?
lorna olsen
58:03
@Tom - yes, TurningPoint Web will allow students to respond to poll questions in real-time using their mobile devices and results can be integrated with the Bb Grade Center
Allison
58:29
can you show group creation
Marisol Berti
58:31
Yes, I agree for polling use Turning Point not Zoom.
tom dowdell
59:05
How do we integrate the TurningPoint results with the grade center?
Jenny Linker
59:11
When you create a document with all these Q&As, will you also include a step-by-step process using your recommended practices (with explanations as to why this is recommended)?
Carrie Anne Platt
59:19
Would it be possible to create a Knowledge Base document that instructors with Zoom experience could also add to? Experiences like @Marisol’s are really valuable!
Kjersten Nelson
59:34
I did a practice session with some people and, when I did a poll, most people saw it, but one person couldn't. Is there any trouble shooting we can do if/when this happens?
Sarah Boonstoppel
59:39
Re: polls and f2f students— if all students are on zoom for breakout sessions, then that solves the issue
Sarah Boonstoppel
59:44
? Yes?
Shar
01:00:05
@carrie anne great idea...Sam can you note that, please :)
Sam Morrison
01:00:13
Yes
Shar
01:00:19
Thank you!
Carrie Anne Platt
01:00:25
@ Sarah. Yes. Polls work great on mobile if students just want to load it on their phone.
Kjersten Nelson
01:02:04
That might be an advantage to saving them to your computer, instead of the cloud?
Chris Colbert
01:02:49
Can you convert Zoom recordings to Yuja recordings?
martha.guthmiller
01:02:58
Can someone set up a cheat sheet for setting up our Zoom lectures, I am struggling doing it in BB and getting the same look as Shar did.
Sarah Boonstoppel
01:03:08
If you post the link to zoom in Blackboard, does that duplicate the authentication issue that having them access within Blackboard’s tool accomplishes?
Shar
01:03:44
yes@martha we are working on documents
Heather Fuller
01:04:42
This topic and session are incredibly helpful. Thank you all for your willingness to brainstorm and help us figure this out! We appreciate it very much, as you can tell by our many many questions!
Jenny Linker
01:04:52
Difference between entering zoom via ndsu.zoom.us/meeting versus just going directly to Zoom on web? I see authentication, but do both land me in the same spot?
Thomas D. Isern
01:05:50
If I invite guest speakers, are they able to join the meeting even if we start within tne Blackboard Zoom platform?
Marisol Berti
01:07:01
Power went off in my building maybe did to others too.
Allison
01:07:14
perfect thanks
Lori Swinney
01:07:53
Breakout rooms - https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/206476093-Enabling-breakout-rooms
Stefanie Meyer
01:10:53
so helpful, thanks!
Carrie Anne Platt
01:11:16
Thanks for this session! Stay safe, everyone.
Hollie’s iPhone
01:11:17
thank you stay safe with that weather
Marisol Berti
01:11:55
Would it be possible to repeat this session? Looks like there are a lot of questions and interest. Great job !! Thanks so much
Fone Pengnate
01:12:15
can we edit zoom video before posting on bb?
Fone Pengnate
01:12:27
thank you!
Amelia Asperin
01:12:39
Thank you. Looking forward to the Q&A documentation. Very helpful!
