lorna olsen
12:26
Session recordings will be available at: https://kb.ndsu.edu/training as soon as possible
Deirdre Prischmann-Voldseth
14:09
Regarding teaching at home, is the university testing out ways (software?) to remote access the in-class computer so that another person doesn't need to physically be in the classroom to log in/start everything and log out.
Melissa Vosen Callens
14:55
That’s what I heard in the faculty forum, Deidre. They are going to try it.
Martha
14:58
So if I am at home teaching as a professor, I just log into my system from home with my laptop?
Kent Rodgers
15:05
Yes, this is an issue, especially for those of us who do not have TAs.
Sheri Okland
15:19
If a faculty member does not have a TA/GA. They will need to find someone to log into the system?
Martha
15:25
so just like I did with BB collaborate?
Leretta Smith
16:32
Do th students see my giving the lecture a well as the owerpoints I want o show?
Melissa Vosen Callens
16:34
Thanks, Melissa!
Kelly
17:26
So if I am teaching remotely from home and using Zoom for videoconference. The student logs into the Zoom link I send and I log into Zoom and we will be connected so I can see and interact with the classroom?
Leretta Smith
17:31
so there is no way that they see me in the corner?
Jill Lodde Greives
18:07
I see the power point
Kendra Greenlee
18:09
I see the powerpoint
Mary Larson
18:10
I see the powerpoint
abigail.bremer
18:11
No, I can see the PowerPoint
bruce.maylath
18:11
I can see the Powerpoint
Amy Stichman
18:13
powerpoint here
Amelia Asperin
18:13
I’m still seeing it
christina.hargiss
18:14
I can see the powerpoint
Martha
18:15
i am too
Leretta Smith
18:15
I see the powerpoint
Nurun Nahar
18:17

melissa stotz
18:45
Kelly -- that is correct
bruce.maylath
18:56
We’re witnessing what we’re like to experience with our students.
Jon
19:09
^ very good point
Shar
19:15
yes you are Bruce :)
Jon
19:46
our first class sessions should give a brief overview of the software and interface
melissa stotz
20:08
^^^yes Jon!
Caroline Hackerott
21:13
What’s your take on not turning on their video function?
lorna olsen
21:20
LAIC has upcoming training sessions in August focusing specifically on using both Collaborate Ultra and Zoom in the HyFlex environment - https://kb.ndsu.edu/training
Shar
22:48
@caroline I will have tammy address that at the end of this slide
Amelia Asperin
23:01
@Lorna: Will the training session also have a student version so they can view that ahead of time? Like how they join the class via Blackboard?
Leretta Smith
23:26
could I copy the chat so that I can go back and answer all of the questions later, and then add that attachment on bb later?
Jill Lodde Greives
23:34
That seems great for the instructor, but detrimental to the student being asked to do that unless they are an LA or TA.
lorna olsen
24:14
@Amelia - the early August training sessions we have scheduled now have a instructor focus - we're working on documentation (videos, files, etc.) which will be helpful for students.
Jill Lodde Greives
24:40
Could breakout rooms be demonstrated? How are rooms assigned to students for small group discussion?
Shar
25:03
yes you can save the chat in zoom. I will need to double check in Bb collaborate
lorna olsen
25:08
I just turned my video feed off for that very reason!
Lori Swinney
25:09
@Leretta, yes you can save the chat from the Zoom session
Kathy Coykendall
25:34
Can you show how to save the chat?
Leretta Smith
25:44
Is there a way that I can be giving lecture and ask a couple questions that I would like the students to answer, but have these questions somewhere on BB so that they can answer those questions on blackboard realtime when we are in class?
Shar
26:02
@Kathy we can try at the end of we have time. The trainings over zoom in Augst will have more about that
Amelia Asperin
26:02
@Lorna: Ok thank you. It would be great to have it linked in our courses so the students have a resource and each faculty won’t have to develop their own videos:).
Kathy Coykendall
26:11
Ok, thanks
lorna olsen
26:27
@Kathy - look for the 3 small dots icon in the lower right corner of the chat panel > click the dots to see the Save Chat option
Leretta Smith
26:37
Can I save the chat in collaborate?
Kathy Coykendall
26:53
Got it, thanks!
Jeanne HAGEMAN
27:02
Will these slides be available for later?
Sri Lalitha Nuthulapati
27:06
if some of the students attended the class in-person physically on assigned class room and some of them attending via remote , TA/Instructor of the class attended via remote in zoom sessions. Is that accepted for TA to attend via zoom? or as some of the students attended the class physically, the TA to attend the class in-person? please let me know.
Caroline Hackerott
27:37
do y’all suggest limiting “private chat”
abigail.bremer
28:05
At the very beginning, you suggested that most people would use BlackBoard Collaborate or Zoom and that few would use Teams. Is there a reason why I wouldn’t want to use Teams?
Leretta Smith
28:52
can I ask questions I would like students to answer in realtime in collaborate during lecture?
Shar
29:21
@lorna can you please put the VC doc in the chat
Shar
29:25
i cant move my screen
lorna olsen
29:54
@Shar - will do so in just a moment!
Shar
30:04
@abigail the doc lorna is posting will help
abigail.bremer
30:12
Thanks!
Mary Larson
30:30
On IVN, if you are in a classroom, but not logged into IVN on a separate computer, the students are "chatting" and the faculty member does not see what is being chatting.
sijo.mathew
30:54
how do you trun off private chat in zoom
Mary Larson
31:55
When in a class, students will chat with each other, they may text each other, etc. it is a classroom management concern
lorna olsen
31:57
VC Software Comparison: https://kb.ndsu.edu/page.php?id=104067
Leretta Smith
31:57
Is there any way that since I have a class of 300 they could answer the questions somewhere in bb while we are also doing lecture?
abigail.bremer
32:02
There is also a survey function on BB Collaborate for you to ask a multiple choice or yes not question to all students in real time.
Shar
32:18
@sijo we will cover that in zoom training
Jon
32:34
There
Marisol Berti
32:49
will the zoom embedded in Blackboard will have a zoom link that I can e-mail in the case someone cannot log in in Blackboard?
Jon
32:51
There's also a forum in blackboard, but probably not as convenient for real time questions
Mary Larson
33:02
If recording a zoom class, does the chat get recorded too?
Daniel Erichsen
34:17
@Mary you can set Zoom to automatically save the chat to your computer once the class ends. It will be a text file.
Michael Roberts
34:26
Are students not enrolled in the class allowed to watch streams?
Mary Larson
34:36
does that include private chat?
Daniel Erichsen
35:19
@Marisol - yes, you can also email the Zoom link out in case students cannot log into BB (or if you have a guest speaker)
Shar
35:33
how do the instructors remotely login to classrooms computer?was asked
Marisol Berti
35:46
I f you are running the session from the classroom , where does the zoom recording is saved at?
Shar
35:48
all you need to do is log into you software
Daniel Erichsen
35:57
@Mary - no, private chat is not saved or accessible. It is truly private between the participants
Mary Larson
36:15
thank you Daniel that is good to know
Daniel Erichsen
36:42
@Marisol - I would select the cloud recording option and then the recording gets saved directly into your class folder in BB for you and your students to access.
Marisol Berti
38:26
Thank you
Teresa Shume
38:36
Can breakout groups in Collaborate and Zoom be done on a phone?
Kristine.Steffen
39:08
Will you address how to administer exams with minimal risk of cheating, or will that be handled in another session?
Shar
39:21
@kristine that will be our Hyfles 3 session
Shar
39:29
we will schedule that next week
Shar
39:37
keep an eye on your email Friday :)
Kristine.Steffen
39:38
Perfect - thank you! :)
Jon
39:40
Yes, as a student I've been sent into breakout groups on a phone
Jon
39:49
@teresa
Jon
40:01
Interface is simplified but it works fine
Teresa Shume
40:16
@ Jon: thanks!
lorna olsen
40:22
@Kristine - you can also check the upcoming training schedule page at https://kb.ndsu.edu/training for updated schedule information
Jon
41:48
@teresa I WOULD recommend the host / instructor use a computer though, but students can be on a phone
changhui
41:50
@char you mean the instructors only need to login to zoom and there is no need to login to classrooms computer remotely?
Polly Olson
42:10
Daniel, do you mind sharing the type of mask you are using?
Ronald Degges
43:14
Lets hope that those Tas/Las are not sick as well.
changhui
43:26
so that someone in the classrooms will need to know your username and password?
Jordi Estevadeordal
43:35
how does it feel wearing and talking with a mask for an hour
Martha
43:45
That would be great!
Daniel Erichsen
43:49
@Polly - good question. I cut the tag, so I cannot say what material it is.
lorna olsen
43:49
@Changhui - the person in the classroom would log in to the computer using their own username and password - they do
Dean Steele
44:08
So the TA or volunteer students would start out as a meeting host in Zoom or Bb Collaborate?
melissa stotz
44:44
Dean, they do not necessarily need to be the host.
melissa stotz
44:57
they just need access to the link to join the session (which you are a host)
Shar
45:01
@Daneil do you know Deans question?
Shar
45:09
Thank you Melissa :)
melissa stotz
45:14
you may want to assign the student co-host so that they have some abilities to help mute mics, etc
Dean Steele
46:38
Thanks.
Ronald Degges
47:12
Will there be training sessions on how to conduct quizzes or polls during the classtime
Polly Olson
47:36
Yes, I'd like to know about using the polling feature
Leretta Smith
48:16
I would like to know how to use the polling feature as well
Jill Lodde Greives
48:22
Could you demonstrate breakout rooms? Or touch on how they are assigned?
Jon
48:23
Ditto
Jon
48:35
@Leretta
Polly Olson
48:39
Yes, break outs rooms too
Mary Larson
49:08
Is it possible to send a Qualtrics survey out to our students asking them how they feel about f2f, synchronous, and asynchronous online learning? Or have we already done this? Given the circumstances, it is important to assess what/how students are feeling and what they are thinking.
Jessica Jensen
49:16
https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/206476093-Enabling-breakout-rooms
Jon
49:27
BY THE WAY
Jill Lodde Greives
49:33
@Jessica, thank you!
Jon
49:34
The RAISE HAND function is accessed by
Jon
49:49
going to "Participants" and then it'll be at the bottom of the tab on the right
sherri.stastny
51:04
got it thanks!
Katie Wissman
51:18
@Mary - I'm not associated with ITS, but several faculty (me included) in my department have sent out Qualtrics survey to our students to get their plans/opinions on attending F2F vs. remote. And asking about access to high-speed internet, COVID concerns, etc. Super useful! And I think the students appreciate it :)
melissa stotz
52:28
Katie that is great!
Mary Larson
52:39
@Katie--I am interested in what you learned.
Leretta Smith
53:09
polling feature in collaborate
Dena Wyum
53:54
Is there a recommended stylus for the Smart Podiums that instructors should get to use in the classroom with the new podiums? I started looking at options and I see that some connect via Bluetooth and such and want to make sure I purchase one that will work.
Leretta Smith
53:59
thank you - I will attend those
Leretta Smith
54:52
can anything I do in collaborate be tied into the gradebook?
Katie Wissman
54:57
@Mary - I'd be happy to send you my questions and results if via email you'd like!
Amelia Asperin
54:58
@Melissa: Yes, that would be great.
Ronald Degges
55:09
when will zoom be in blackboard
Marisol Berti
55:09
when will the integration be ready?
melissa stotz
55:31
I chose to share the results of the poll - they did not have to be shared -- up to the host.
Mary Larson
55:41
@katie--please do--mary.larson2@ndsu.edu
Leretta Smith
55:45
can any polling in collaborate be tied to a gradebook question/quiz?
Ronald Degges
56:20
ty
Polly Olson
56:23
To participate in a Zoom poll, will the inperson students only need to have their phone with the Zoom app in class with them?
Mary Larson
56:31
Given the circumstances, it is important to assess what/how students are feeling and what they are thinking. Is it possible to send a Qualtrics survey out to our students asking them how they feel about f2f, synchronous, and asynchronous online learning? Or have we already done this?
Deona McEnery
56:33
It would be very cool if the polling could be connected to the gradebook as a tool for taking attendance.
melissa stotz
56:49
Polly that is correct! good question
Sri Lalitha Nuthulapati
56:50
There is already roster in BB
Teresa Shume
57:28
This morning, it was mentioned there will be a link to a list of instrumented rooms with updates about about installation progress. Is that link available yet?
James CAMPBELL
57:38
Some labs need specific softwares to be completed. Those software are installed on computers on campus in the lab room. Will students be able to access the computers in the lab remotely if they cannot physically go in the lab room? Thank you
Polly Olson
57:42
thank you!
Leretta Smith
57:43
is there any training for how to incorporate questions in lecture to be given and then using turning point be graded in gradebook? Is there training for this feature?
Daniel Erichsen
58:25
@James - yes, students can remote into our computer labs and use the software on the computers from home.
Kelly
58:34
Will the use of phones or headsets in the classroom in order to have groups include both inclass and remote cause any difficulty as the overhead mics pic up discussions?
lorna olsen
58:48
https://kb.ndsu.edu/training
James CAMPBELL
59:10
Thank you
Leretta Smith
59:20
thank you
Angie Walswick
01:00:04
Did I understand correctly that all students have free access to turning point?
Shar
01:00:17
@Angie yes
Angie Walswick
01:00:24
Thanks!
Deona McEnery
01:00:35
How do we get access to Turning Point?
Kelly
01:00:46
yes, mute the in room mics, I did not know that was possible, thanks
lorna olsen
01:00:54
@Angie - yes, all students do have TurningPoint access for free - TurningPoint Web allows them to use mobile devices rather than physical clickers
Shar
01:00:56
TurningPoint Resources: https://www.turningtechnologies.com/news-and-events/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=sembrand&utm_campaign=US_Brand_Desktop_Exact&utm_term=turning%20point
Marisol Berti
01:01:01
Can you share the link to Turning point set up for students to add it to my syllabus?
andrew croll
01:01:16
what exactly will be the usefulness of having blackboard integrated with zoom? Blackboard is very slow, why not just use zoom separately?
Deona McEnery
01:01:43
Sounds easy. Thanks!
Shar
01:01:53
https://kb.ndsu.edu/101667
Marisol Berti
01:02:06
So we do not need the Turning Point USB
Shar
01:02:08
TurningPoimt
Shar
01:02:09
https://kb.ndsu.edu/101667
Shar
01:02:37
@Marisol not with TP web -we will have training on that :)
Marisol Berti
01:03:19
@Shar thanks
Jenny Linker
01:03:25
Will our personal Zoom accounts be automatically integrated into our BB classroom sites or do we need to set that up?
Jenny Linker
01:03:59
NDSU
Mary Larson
01:04:20
from Tammy...@Marisol, the USB is only needed if you use the actual clicker.
Dean Steele
01:04:32
Will the model for Zoom recordings be similar to that for YuJa recordings? Thus, for example, will need to publish the videos to a content area? Will Zoom videos be in a "Default Content Area" for possible reuse the next semester or year?
Dean Steele
01:05:15
Thanks!
Zachary B Machunda
01:05:28
How do I upload my Old Turning Power Point slides and questions from my flash drive to TurningPoint web?
Teresa Shume
01:05:39
This morning, it was mentioned there will be a link to a list of instrumented rooms with updates about about installation progress. Is that link available yet?
kristi steinmann
01:06:19
@Teresa, that link is not available yet today. I’m not sure if we’ll have it yet tomorrow before we send our campus update.
lorna olsen
01:07:00
https://www.ndsu.edu/it
Katie Wissman
01:07:17
Re: Zachary's question - can you make that doc for transitioning from desktop to web widely available? I didn't think TP Web let you use PowerPoint, but it required a different web format (and only in TP Hybrid could you still use PowerPoint)
Katie Wissman
01:08:04
Thank you :)
Jill Lodde Greives
01:08:14
Thank you!
